Hi there,

Welcome back to Founder Mode.

Early factories replaced steam with electric motors then kept the exact same floor layout and wondered why productivity barely moved. That's most companies with AI right now. This week's reads keeps you in the know.

You are welcomed to join our exclusive demo day for the WAIC (World AI Conference) x Future Tech Demo Day tomorrow happening on Zoom. The session will spotlight the best of frontier AI companies spanning predictive AI, generative AI, AI infrastructure, enterprise AI, automation, and emerging AI-native applications.

Thanks for reading, and let’s dive in!

Max Schoening (Head of Product, Notion; formerly VP Design at GitHub) argues agency and not skills, is the trait that separates people who thrive from those who fall behind in the AI era. His key point: the first 10% of every project is now effectively free, which changes how teams should think about exploration and prototyping. Also: vibe coding has made more software, not better software, and the quality gap creates real opportunity.

This is a tactical change for how you hire, what you optimize for in your team, and how you structure product work. The "agency beats skills" insight applies directly to who you want in the room as AI absorbs more execution. My favorite content on high agency is written by George Mack and worth multiple reads.

YC's Summer 2026 Request for Startups
AI stopped being a feature and started being the foundation. YC published its Summer 2026 RFS, excited about startups rebuilding software, services, and silicon from scratch around AI. Worth reading and a hint of where the future is heading.

Agents Can Now Create Accounts, Buy Domains, and Deploy
Coding agents can go from zero to deployed autonomously, including creating a Cloudflare account, buying a domain, starting a paid subscription, and shipping to production — no human required. $100/month spending cap per provider.

Mistral Vibe Launches Remote Agents
Async coding sessions that run in the cloud, execute in parallel, and ping you when they're done. Powered by Mistral Medium 3.5 (128B, open weights, 77.6% on SWE-Bench). Sessions can be "teleported" from CLI to cloud mid-task; completed agents open a PR on GitHub.

We're in 1905
Early AI adoption (copilot on old processes) is the exact same mistake as factories replacing steam engines with electric motors but keeping the old floor layout. Gains only show up when the workflow changes. Recommended read for all operators.

SaaS Churn Hits the Math in 2026
Multi-year contracts masked the problem while buyers quietly tested AI alternatives. Now they're expiring and the retention assumptions baked into most SaaS payback models are meeting reality for the first time. Are you facing it or are you also switching?

🛠 Tool of the Week

If your team is still managing work in Jira or Notion boards, you're carrying more drag than you think. Linear is the project management tool built for teams that actually want to ship, not teams that want to manage the appearance of shipping. The UI is fast by design, almost entirely keyboard-navigable, and opinionated enough that it removes the friction of setting things up. Join the startup programme with StartupX’s code.
